Mensa, the largest, oldest and best-known high-IQ society in the world, is a non-profit organization open to people who score at the 98th percentile or higher on a standardized, supervised intelligence test. Mensa's constitution lists three purposes: to identify and to foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity; to encourage research into the nature, characteristics, and uses of intelligence; and to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members. To this end, the organization is involved with programs for gifted children, literacy, and scholarships.
Other organizations with requirements as to specific IQ scores on standardizes test include The International High IQ Society, which requires a score in the 95th percentile, Sigma II, Top One Percent Society, Poetic Genius Society, Cerebrals, International Society for Philosophical Enquiry, One-in-a- Thousand Society, Prometheus Society, Four Sigma Society, Pi Society and Mega Society. Some of the latter groups require a score in top 99.99, and as such they are relatively small.
Though not an organization that requires a specified IQ test or score, The Phi Beta Kappa Society is an academic honor society whose members typically have elevated IQ’s. At a university with a chapter, PBK will typically offer fewer than ten percent of the candidates for degrees at a university's College of Arts and Sciences admission. Founded at The College of William and Mary, as the first collegiate Greek-letter fraternity, it is among the oldest undergraduate societies in the United States and is widely considered the most prestigious liberal arts and sciences honor society in the nation.
